[Actual Data] Starting Torque of Our Low Torque Expander Roll

Today, we want to share the essence of our low-torque technology regarding the "starting torque of expander rolls" with those of you working in demanding production environments—where even the slightest tension deviation in handling ultra-thin films or metal foils can lead to fatal wrinkles or scratches.

When considering the introduction or replacement of an expander roll, have you ever noticed that catalogs often fail to provide specific numerical values for the "starting torque" (the force required to start the roll turning)?

As professionals on the production floor know, the rotational resistance of an expander roll is a critical factor directly linked to product defects when conveying ultra-thin films. Despite this, it remains a general industry tendency to leave these detailed figures unspecified.

Why We Aren't Satisfied with "Under 45g": The Reason We Specify a Strict Range

Simply stating, "Our rolls have a starting torque of 45g or less," might seem like a strong enough selling point.

However, we do not use vague expressions like "under XXg." Why? Because saying "under 45g" means the roll might start at 30g one time, and barely start at 45g the next. This "inconsistency due to individual differences" is the greatest enemy when handling ultra-thin films.

That is exactly why Osaka Senshoku Machinery has chosen the difficult path of setting an extremely narrow, self-imposed target range of "XXg to XXg"—and we ensure every roll falls strictly within that margin.

Two Grades of Low Torque Expander Roll for Severe Demands

We have further categorized our low-torque expander rolls into two top-tier grades, tailored to your line tension and film thickness.

1. MT Type (Ultra-Low Torque Model): The Standard for Extremely Low-Tension Lines

Ideal for extremely low-tension lines processing ultra-thin films. For example, a roll manufactured with a size of [Rubber Outer Diameter (OD) φ100 × Rubber Length (W) 1500] is designed and built to fall within the exceptionally tight expected starting torque range of 35g to 50g. It starts rotating so smoothly that a forced drive pulley becomes completely unnecessary.

2. MTL Type (Ultra-Small GD2 Model): The Premium Grade Stripped to the Absolute Limit

Comparing the same dimensions (OD φ100 × Length 1500W), the starting torque of the MT Type is reduced even further to achieve an astonishing lightness of 25g to 35g.

The most significant feature of this MTL Type is its "film-specific ultra-small GD2 design (ultra-low moment of inertia)." The expander roll instantly follows speed changes during line startup and shutdown, suppressing sheet slip (friction) to the absolute minimum.

Here is a portion of our actual manufacturing data. While the baseline values naturally fluctuate depending on the roll's dimensions (mass), we promise uncompromising figures for every size.

Our Commitment to Specifying "Concrete Figures" on Quotes and Drawings

What we thoroughly insist on is clearly specifying these precise torque ranges on our official quotations and outline drawings.

Declaring that "it will absolutely fall within this range" is a feat only made possible by precise engineering combined with our craftsmen's sub-millimeter assembly skills and meticulous adjustments.

From the standpoint of honest manufacturing, we use the term "expected starting torque" on drawings as a strict technicality. However, thanks to our rigorous 100% inspection and final adjustments, the product delivered to you will never fall outside this designated strike zone. We ship only when it is securely within the promised range.

Results Only a "Custom-Made Masterpiece" Can Deliver

It is easy to say, "As long as it meets a certain standard, it's fine." However, we pride ourselves that consistently manufacturing an expander roll that guarantees rotation within a specified tens-of-grams margin without fail is something only we, with our fully custom-made approach, can achieve.

If you are currently struggling with wrinkles on ultra-thin films or friction scratches from roll slippage, instead of wasting any more time on endless free technical consultations, we strongly urge you to consider introducing our "MT Type" or the top-tier "MTL Type (Ultra-Small GD2 Model)."

We will propose a "truly lightweight roll" optimized down to the milligram to perfectly match your specific line tension and dimensions.
