Improving Wrinkles in Glass Fiber Fabrics! Breaking Through the Barrier of "Crease Wrinkles"

The "OSMT Expander Roll" Solves Complex Problems Without a Drive Unit

[Challenge] Excessive Load on Delicate Fabrics

The "crease wrinkles" peculiar to glass fiber fabrics could not be eliminated with flat expander rolls. A major cause was that conventional rolls placed an excessive load on the transported fabric. For delicate glass fibers, even the slightest rotational resistance or friction became a cause of wrinkles.

[Solution] Achieving "Ultra-Low Torque" Without a Drive Unit

The customer's attention was drawn to our "OSMT Low-Torque Type" expander roll. The decisive factor was that "no drive unit is required." Because it operates with extremely low rotational torque, it applies no unnecessary friction or tension to the fabric, allowing it to rotate and spread smoothly using only the fabric's inherent web tension.

[Result] Dramatic Improvement in Crease Wrinkles

Simply by installing the roll—without adding any special drive units or complex controls—the crease wrinkles that had been occurring in specific glass fiber fabrics were dramatically reduced. This eliminated extra work on the winding line, enabling the stable production of high-quality products without reducing the production speed.

Eliminate Product Loss by Solving Wrinkle Problems in Drying Ovens!

A Revolutionary "Heat-Resistant Expander Roll" Overcoming Failures Caused by Thermal Expansion

The "Heat-Resistant Expander Roll" by Osaka Senshoku Machinery Co., Ltd. operating inside a 150°C drying oven. A product image from a case study demonstrating how failures caused by thermal expansion were overcome and wrinkle problems were successfully eliminated.

"Heat-Resistant Expander Roll Operating in a 160°C Environment"

[Challenge] Roll Deformation in a 160°C High-Temperature Environment

Wrinkles were forming on fabric products inside a drying oven with a maximum ambient temperature of approximately 160°C, causing significant product loss (scrap). With conventional heat-resistant rolls, simply changing the bearing grease or using heat-resistant rubber materials was insufficient; failures occurred due to the rubber's expansion and contraction caused by thermal expansion. The lack of a "heat-resistant roll that could be installed directly inside the drying oven" was a major headache for the customer.

[Solution] A Unique Structure to Control Thermal Expansion

To address this challenge, we proposed a revolutionary heat-resistant expander roll that fundamentally eliminates failures caused by thermal expansion. It features a structure that controls thermal expansion movements even in high-temperature environments of around 160°C, making it highly resistant to mechanical failures. It is a one-of-a-kind product that can be installed directly inside drying ovens.

[Result] Dramatic Reduction in Product Loss

By installing our heat-resistant expander roll inside the drying oven, we successfully resolved the long-standing problem of wrinkles in fabric products. As a result, product loss (scrap) within the drying oven was dramatically reduced, enabling production with consistently high quality.
