Osaka Dyeing and Weaving Machinery Co., Ltd. has developed a new rubber roll for use in a straight (linear) shape by applying the "built-in bearing and outer ring rotating system" of their flagship product, the expander roll. The structure is fundamentally different from that of a typical iron-core straight-wound roll. As only the rubber sleeve (outer ring) rotates, it achieves surprisingly low rotational torque. It can be used in a wide range of applications as a guide roll, touch roll, or free roll.
Three reasons to choose the outer ring rotating type (sleeve type)
1. Low torque and "driving force"

2. No drive unit or construction required
Installation is complete simply by fixing the shaft. Since motors and complex bearing designs are unnecessary (*), it is extremely easy to add new test lines or replace existing lines.

3. Adjust the grip with surface treatment
Grip strength is optimized by polishing and grooving the sleeve surface, and it also functions highly as a pressure roll (touch roll) that prevents slippage.

Helical and parallel grooves are used to prevent air entrapment. Surface polishing adjusts the coefficient of friction, preventing wrinkles and slippage.
Paper processing/printing/non-woven fabric
The surface finish is less susceptible to the effects of paper dust, and low load conveyance is achieved for tension-sensitive nonwoven fabrics, preventing product stretching and breakage.

It can also be used in corrosive environments such as the outlet of an acidic chemical tank. In addition to a structure in which the shaft (metal part) does not rotate, chemical-resistant rubber (fluorine, etc.) is selected, providing high durability and drainage performance.

*Due to the sleeve-type structure of this product, the rotational runout accuracy that can be achieved varies depending on the roll face length (length). A. Currently, we can manufacture rubber outer diameters from φ50mm to φ125mm, with a maximum face length of 2,500mm. We plan to expand our range of sizes in the future. We may be able to handle sizes other than those listed above, so please feel free to contact us.
Q2. What is the line speed that can be handled?
A. Surface speed: Maximum 350m/min. Expander roll structure is used, achieving smooth follow-up (co-rotation) even at high speeds.
Q3. Can the rubber material be changed?
A. Yes, it can be changed. In addition to the standard stock EPDM, we can manufacture products using various materials such as NBR, urethane, and silicone depending on the application. Also, since this product has a replaceable sleeve, you can manufacture only the sleeve of the rubber material you want to use and use it by replacing it. This is also ideal for when you want to try out different materials for testing.
Q4. Can the surface be finished (polished)?
A. Yes, it is possible if the standard specifications of this product (OS outer ring rotating type) are met. By polishing the surface, the gripping force can be fine-tuned, and the friction coefficient can be optimized for each application.

Q5. Is it possible to replace an existing roll (rotating shaft)?
A. Yes, it is possible. However, since this product has a "fixed shaft," you may need to remove the bearing (bearing unit) and use a special bearing to fix the shaft to the frame, or you may need to make some simple modifications.

A. Yes, it is possible. If non-stickiness or chemical resistance is required, we can process the rubber sleeve into a Teflon tube (heat shrink tube).
